Rory graduated from Lancaster University in the United Kingdom with a BA Honours in Sociology. He then completed the National Schools Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) PGCE in Outstanding Primary Schools, via The University of Nottingham. Rory has subsequently dedicated his career to teaching in the primary phase.

Having taught for 3 years at a primary school in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK, Rory moved to The British School in Tokyo. In his 4 years there, he taught students in Year One and Year Three. He then moved to Kellett School in Hong Kong, where he spent 4 further years educating pupils in Year Four and Year Five.

Alongside his teaching experience, Rory has completed courses that focus on the innovative and impactful use of technology in the classroom. He is passionate about using his knowledge of technology to enhance teaching and learning, and to ignite the engagement of the children in his care.

Rory has a keen interest in sport, both as a spectator and as a participant. He enjoys jogging, where the Tokyo Marathon in 2017 is his proudest achievement. He is also an avid Leeds United fan, and ensures that he watches their games when they are on at a reasonable hour. He is also enthusiastic about travel, reading and good food.

Rory is a thoughtful and empathetic individual, and prides himself on always creating a warm and welcoming classroom community, where each child feels truly valued. This approach is the foundation of his educational philosophy, and he is incredibly excited about joining the similarly kind and caring community at Brighton College. He moves to Singapore with his fiancée and they are both thrilled to begin a new adventure in Asia together.
